Yum-Yum-Videos-explainer-video-production-company-COMPUTER-thumbYou already know that animated explainer videos are the ultimate marketing tool and want to use them to promote your new product or service, but have no idea of where to start or how to do it?

If that’s your case, then this is your lucky day!

Today in this post we’ll talk about how to make an explainer video for your business, so keep on reading so you can learn the process, step by step.

The Script

The first thing you need to know is that making an animated marketing video is not like eating a piece of cake, because it requires professional knowledge and meticulous work, nevertheless we’re sure that with some practice, and our guidance, you’ll be able to get some pretty good results.

The script is the first stage of the explainer video production process.

Your script is, basically, the message you want to deliver to your audience, the one the voice actor will read over the video. When writing, don’t make the story about your brand or your product’s features, but about your audience’s problems. It’s important that they know that you care and, most significantly, that you can solve their problems.

Write the script using the classical Hollywood structure; composed by a beginning (when you say what the problem of your audience is), middle (when you reveal how your company solves that problem) and end (when you explain why your business is the choice to go for).

The Storyboard

A storyboard is like a sketched comic strip of your animated marketing video. It presents every single action, the camera positions, the characters, the visual elements and pretty much everything that appears on the screen.

The storyboard is useful to pre-visualize how the story will develop. View it like this: the script is what the video is going to be and the storyboard is how you’re going to do it.

Here’s an example of a storyboard we made:

The Voice Over

Ok, so far you know what the video is about and how it will be shown. Then, what you need next is a voice that matches all of these.

The voice over is the recording of a voice actor reading the script. It’s very important that a professional voice talent takes care of this job, because only an expert will know how to transmit the right emotions through the narration.

This person also has to be native from the country where the product is going to be sold, so the audience can hear a voice of trust.

Watch this video we made for American Express Australia to realize how important it is to have a native and professional voice talent:

This is the moment to give shape to the characters and all the visual elements that appear on the storyboard, including backgrounds and landscapes.

We recommend that you design your animated characters in a way that they can resemble your target audience, so they can feel immediately identified with and grow trust in your business , and -eventually- in your brand.

Here are the custom animated characters we designed from the previous storyboard:

It’s time to make all the previous stages work together  by synchronization. We’re specifically talking about putting it all together and in motion!

Here’s when everything comes to life, because with animation, you can make the story vivid and the characters look alive. Afterwards, add in some sound and music effects and voila, your animated marketing video is done and ready, so you can start to share it with the world!

After reading this, there’s one more thing you should know: animated marketing videos can be made in two different ways: by using templates or customized versions.

The first option is the cheapest one and you can even make one yourself online, but it’s very impersonalized because it is designed for a general audience and not specifically for your target, plus the chances that the video looks like a poor quality one are pretty big and this could ruin your brand irreversibly.

Instead, a custom animated marketing video is made by a professional explainer video company, where many professionals work hard to give you the best results.

Here's another great example of our custom-made marketing videos, selected by Hubspot as one of the best explainer videos of 2015:

This option is -of course- more expensive, but the return on the investment will make it worthwhile. You’ll have the sky as the limit when it comes to creativity, so everything you imagine for you video can be made, having at the end a material of true high quality that will make your sales increase more than ever before!
